I used to be careless and carefree … but now – I don’t know whether it is due to age or the weather or even a condition of blood pressure – as my younger sister who aspires to be a home doctor claims – I find myself getting all serious on things that I did not bother about before. ‘Over thinking it‘ in the jargon of my nieces.
Thus I was happily surprised when I came across this article in Aleteia mentioning the prayer by St. Thomas Moore which Pope Francis has been reciting daily for 40 years!! It is surely a secret to his cheerfulness … and so I gladly share for any of my cranky friends out there. 😍
Extract from Aleteia article …
In a book-interview “God is Young,” the Holy Father reveals the prayer he’s been reciting for 40 years to not be taken too seriously and maintain a touch of humor.
“Grant me, O Lord, good digestion, and also something to digest.
Grant me a healthy body, and the necessary good humor to maintain it.
Grant me a simple soul that knows to treasure all that is good
and that doesn’t frighten easily at the sight of evil,
but rather finds the means to put things back in their place.
Give me a soul that knows not boredom, grumblings, sighs and laments,
nor excess of stress, because of that obstructing thing called “I.”
Grant me, O Lord, a sense of good humor.
Allow me the grace to be able to take a joke to discover in life a bit of joy,
and to be able to share it with others.”St. Thomas More (1478-1535).
It reminds me of the words of Chesterton

which I had also quoted in a previous post Angels with only one wing along with other advice to myself .. which I have not quite taken heed of. Or have I ??
Aww … what the heck… life is too short to wonder whether I have or not. 😘 😘
Hi ..back after ….scrolled up to see when I posted this and did a double take. Early August !! Has it been that long ?Anyways …back after aeons and again .. first connection I am making is with you 😊. I did read your comments whilst on the run and then home moving got in the way.
Yep … all four points noted and find an echo. The one re.astrology … hmmm have not got into that although fellow countrymen (primarily Buddhists) do everything by the stars … from naming a child s to sending him/her to school, finding a partner, commencing work on a building or major contract etc etc.. … Stars are consulted for an auspicious time and color. Is this what you are referring to? or general energy forces?
Catholics have generally been dissuaded from ‘auspicious’ times as we believe all time is sacred so no need to consult star. But recently a priest pointed out that in the Bible narrative, the wise men consulted the stars !!! and so I resolved to read up more on this matter. Who knows … He who set the universe in motion may have hidden a code in the cosmos for us to discover 😃
How have you been keeping ? Hope all is well.Shall call over at your site and find out some of your goings on if you have written.😘

For what it’s worth, here’s what I ponder: 1. the times, they are a changin’ as Bob Dylan wrote. I’ve not seen such a chaotic time since the mid-60s. Even the sun, at solar minimum, is acting up and spewing out stuff (spaceweather.com is my go to place when I feel wonky). And it’s not just this president or that; and it’s not just climate change; and it’s not just poverty and lack of decent pay. It’s all of it. 2. I watch, record, and keep doing my work which is to bring peace to myself and those around me. Sometimes I’m successful and sometimes I’m not. When I’m not, I apologize. 3. I do my best to pay attention to the energies and duck. Life, in general, is NUTS! I don’t think it will go on forever. 4. I read a lot of astrology and pay attention to the energies kicked up by the planets. Did you know that Jupiter emits millions more of electromagnetic energy than it absorbs? I read that a few years ago in a National Geographic magazine and went, oh. And when the emitting energies by various planets cross each other and we on Earth are in the crosshairs, well. It gets wonky. As now. For me, along with the prayers, it’s paying attention. Not taking on the energies but ducking as much as possible and knowing this too shall pass. Eventually.

And my dear, you have more often than have not. To take ourselves and our days lightly. Now. That I continue to practice. And yes, I expect you have taken heed…it’s the one-winged days that can get to us. 🙂
